Navedo, Navedo River, The Hermida
Place

Canyoning is the activity that perfectly combines the mountain and the water. Jumping into pools, slides and rappelling (rope descent) attract more customers every year. Anyone can practice it, since it is fun for everyone regardless of age (under 10 years old, consult).

Navedo is a small town among the peaks of Europe enclosed between mountains. The Navedo River crosses it, running through the ravine that bears the same name, to join with the Deva River in the middle of the largest gorge in Europe “La Hermida”.

We can assure that Navedo is the ravine that has the best conditions in all of northern Spain. Safe, dynamic and fun like few others.

The feeling of adventure begins when you arrive at the facilities. The ravine is ten minutes from our base in Panes and only another ten minutes of approach (journey from the vehicle to the head of the ravine) along the old road that connects Navedo with La Hermida and Potes. After the guide’s instructions, a waterfall welcomes us giving us a refreshing shower. It is the beginning of a day full of surprises, slides and dips.

The place could not be more beautiful when we reach a 25-meter waterfall where we will rappel down. Exciting and safe since our guide handles a second rope in case we make a mistake. After two hours advancing through the ravine, with countless slides, small jumps and climbs, we arrive at a very wide and deep pool, into which we can jump if we have the courage to climb a ledge located nearby. six meters high.

Two and a half hours in a natural water park, immersed in the Picos de Europa. It is not surprising that it is the most popular activity along with canoeing down the Cares and Deva rivers.

Fauna is very present in the Navedo River, especially amphibians, which from spring until the end of summer we can observe in all their phases.

FAQ: Canoaraft on the Cares River

Canoaraft is an exciting way to descend the Cares River. We use high-resistance inflatable canoes that offer great stability. Being inflatable, they bounce off rocks and are much safer than rigid canoes; however, as this is a whitewater river, the possibility of capsizing is always present, which adds an extra adrenaline kick to the activity.

Don’t worry, it’s part of the whitewater adventure. If you capsize, the first thing is to stay calm and adopt the safety position (lying on your back with your feet forward and slightly raised to avoid rocks) and let the current carry you to a calm area or the riverbank. Once there, you can easily turn the inflatable canoe over and continue. The life jacket will always keep you afloat.

The Cares has much stronger currents and rapids than other rivers. Although inflatable canoes make navigation easier, it still requires a taste for action. The biggest rapids are mostly straight lines, so don’t worry—just come and enjoy an intense yet safe river adventure.

Swimsuit and footwear that can get wet. We provide the rest of the equipment, including a wetsuit if conditions require it. Remember to take care of your belongings; we provide a waterproof barrel for your personal items, but you shouldn’t rely on it completely. We recommend wrapping well any objects that must stay dry.

We have no minimum age as long as minors are accompanied by their parents or legal guardians. Wearing a life jacket and helmet is mandatory for both children and adults throughout the entire route. If you have any questions, call us at 676 799 839.
