The Hermida
Place

In the La Hermida gorge, with its 23 km it is the largest in Europe, we find the town that gives it its name, La Hermida. Located at the beginning of the Picos de Europa National Park.

A place with great attraction for mountaineers from Spain and all of Europe, due to the wonderful place in which it is located and the number of possible activities that can be done there.

However, this magnificent place not only attracts mountaineers, a large number of people wanting to rest and disconnect from their routine go to visit it, attracted by the hot springs of the Deva River, and the La Hermida spa.

One of the main attractions of this place for initiated mountaineers, who want to experience the mountains with more safety, are the via ferratas that we can find there: “La Hermida”, “El Milar” and as a novelty “ The Stairway to Heaven”.

The via ferrata “The Stairway to Heaven” has a gradient of 80 m in height, with a very short approach, just 10 minutes along a very comfortable path. It gives us access to the beginning of the steps or metal staples embedded in the wall along which we will advance along a lifeline in which we will be secured at all times.

It has a small Tibetan bridge just 10 m long, which gives us access to the rock where the staircase begins, the main attraction of this via ferrata. This has a height of 65 m, during which we will find ourselves above the void in the safest way.

The activity lasts one hour from the time we leave the parking lot until we return to it. With an approach of about 10 minutes and a return of about 20 minutes.

The technical difficulties in which the Via Ferratas are rated range from K1, (the simplest) to K5 (the most difficult). The Via Ferrata of the Stairway to Heaven is classified as K4 of medium technical difficulty, which means that we must have certain knowledge of the progress of this type of route before accessing it, or on the contrary, have guides like those from Canoe Aventura Trophy, who are responsible at all times for supervising our movements and conveying to us the security that we will undoubtedly need.
